Bergen Travel Basketball League (BTBL)

Rules for Grades 7 and 8

Bergen Travel Basketball League Rules

Divisions: Seventh (7^th), Eight (8^th) and High School Divisions.

BTBL will adhere to High School Basketball Rules with the following exceptions:

Basketball Size = Men’s Regulation for Boys; Woman’s Regulation for Girls

Time = 8 minute quarters; 3 minute Overtime; No running time

Roster Size = 15 Maximum

Playing Time = no mandated playing time

Fouls – Regular = 5 and out

Technical = 2 and out

Fighting and/or use of profanity – see general rules

Bonus = HS Rules = 2 shots upon the 5th and over foul within each quarter

Fouling out = upon 5^th individual foul including technical fouls

3 point shot = Yes, where applicable.

Full court press = Allowed all game

Mercy Rule = no full court press by winning team if up by 15 points (20 points in Army 8^th Boys and Navy 8^th Boys).

The team who is behind by the press limit +5 cannot full court press in the final 2 minutes of the 4th quarter. The intent is to promote subs getting non pressured play time. It is viewed as unfortunate that some coaches who are losing by the press limit or more want their starters in at the end of the game to try to get back in the game against the winning teams subs.

When Mercy rule is in effect: No defense allowed in backcourt. After second warning of defense in backcourt a technical foul may result if in the Refs discretion the backcourt defense was intentional.

Time Outs = 4 full one minute , no 30 second time outs

Overtime = 3 minutes; repeat as necessary. No Ties. Unused time outs will carry over + 1 per OT period.

Coaches on Bench - Only one coach can stand. Only the head coach can call time out. Only the head coach can address the officials.

Playoffs = Top 4 teams.

REFEREES SHOULD REVIEW ALL RULES PRIOR TO GAME WITH BOTH TEAMS.
